Representative and Parliamentary Affairs wing (RPA wing)

 

The Representative and Parliamentary Affairs (RPA) wing of BIDD is the first center of its kind in Bangladesh dedicated to the study and research on good governance, parliamentary activity and democracy related issues.The basic idea behind the establishment of Representative and Parliamentary Affairs wing is to strengthen parliamentary democracy in the country, and foster a sense of solidarity and spirit of democratic citizenship among its people, in short to make democracy by organizing principle of the social and political life of the people of Bangladesh.  

 

The functions of RPA wing are as follows:

  • Conducting research on issues of democracy- local government and parliamentary interest;

  • Rendering expert assistance in Parliamentary matters;

  • Serving as a seminal agency to generate new ideas and concepts for healthy development of parliamentary democracy;

  • Training different stakeholders in areas relevant to healthy functioning of parliamentary democracy;

  • Working with Parliamentary Institutions at the regional, national and global level for exchange of information and sharing of experience;

  • Integrating like-minded institutions so as to form an effective network to meet the objectives of the institute;

  • Undertaking and assist in the organization of conferences, workshops and seminars for the representatives of the people, government departments, local bodies and the public;

  • To familiarize with the life and work of the great leaders of parliamentary democracy and commemorate them;

  • To ensure active involvement of women in democratic decision making so as to achieve gender mainstreaming;

  • To promote understanding of democratic practices among youth;

  • Increase awareness about democracy in the community.

 

The RPA wing decides to publish a yearly peer reviewed journal title "Bangladesh Journal of Parliamentary Affairs" (ISSN 2077 9844) . It strives especially to promote a new level of intellectual cooperation and make a bridge between the people representatives and academic, professional communities and activists at all level committed to democratization.
